Satellite Servicing + Commercial Space Policy //
Human Factors + Astrosociology

Background
Alex Coultrup holds an M.S. in human factors with a focus on microgravity operations from Florida Institute of Technology and a graduate certificate in commercial space operations with emphasis on space policy from the International Space University. Following an unconventional path to the commercial space industry, her personal and academic journey involves aviation science, high-performance athletics, journalism, and multimedia production.
With a passion to understand and improve human conditions on earth and beyond, Alex’s multidisciplinary background has opened doors to a wide array of experiences. She’s had the opportunity to work alongside leading minds in space policy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, collaborate with aerospace industry leaders at the Aldrin Space Institute, conduct research with experts in Human-Centered Design at Florida Tech’s Human Spaceflight Lab, study in the multidisciplinary space industry utopia that is the International Space University, and put her practical skills to the test on a simulated space mission to the Mars Desert Research Station. She was selected as a 2020 Fellow by the a Matthew Isakowitz Fellowship Program, and completed her MIFP internship at the XPRIZE foundation, working to cooperatively establish a future of abundance.

Today, Alex works at Starfish Space, an early-stage startup dedicated to ensuring sustainability of the orbital environment through satellite servicing with autonomous robotics. At Starfish, Alex serves as Low Earth Orbit Business and Policy Manager.

Previously, Alex worked at Nanoracks on the Space Systems program, where she supported both Starlab, Nanoracks' response to NASA's Commercial LEO Destinations opportunity, and Outpost, an initiative to construct essential in-space infrastructure by converting space junk into long-duration orbital platforms.

She cares deeply about ensuring the growth of the commercial space industry is compatible with an equitable and sustainable future for all people, and is a tireless advocate for peaceful solutions that emphasize excellent stewardship of the natural world.
Formal Education
Originally from Southern California, Alex completed her A.A. in aviation science at Orange Coast community college before transferring to Florida Tech to complete her B.S., during which time she represented Team USA at the World Rowing Championships.
After a 2-year break to coach rowing and gain work experience, she returned to Florida Tech to pursue her longtime goal of earning a graduate degree in Human Factors while pivoting from aerospace to the space industry.
